A building is to be erected at Tongji University to house the existing and future training and research programmes organised by IFCIM. It will be ParisTech’s Head Office in China and will offer premises to other French academic or other institutions, in particular in the field of higher education and research, as well as conference and exhibition facilities. It aims to become the showcase of French science and technology in Shanghai.
Tongji's fields of excellence, urban planning and architecture, structures and materials, environmental science, automobile and transports - namely railways -, and the research programmes lead by its faculty on future vehicles, should help the Franco-Chinese centre to become a centre of expertise on sustainable development, on a technical, economical and societal plan. This is all the more justified with the 2010 Shanghai Universal Exhibition coming up.
